What this tool is — and is not
The Disability Claim Readiness Score is a free educational self-screen operated by Benefits Insider, a publication of Next Chapter Media. It helps you organize your own understanding of how prepared your disability claim materials appear today.
It is not legal advice, not a disability determination, not a prediction of any decision, and not a recommendation to file or not to file. Only the Social Security Administration can decide a disability claim. Benefits Insider is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Social Security Administration or any government agency, does not represent you before SSA, and has not reviewed your medical records, earnings record, or SSA file. Applying for disability benefits is always free at ssa.gov, by phone at 1-800-772-1213, or at your local Social Security office. This tool is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney or qualified representative.
Your quiz answers stay on your device
Your answers to the screening questions — including the health-related questions — are processed and scored entirely in your browser. They are stored only on your own device (in your browser's local storage, so you can resume or re-check later) and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
What we collect, and why
To deliver your emailed Readiness Report, we collect what you type into the report form: your first name, email address, and (optional) mobile phone number — together with your score summary (total score, readiness tier, and per-section point totals) and a record of your consent (date, time, IP address, and form version). We do not collect your individual quiz answers.
We use this information to (1) email you your Readiness Report, and (2) send you Benefits Insider emails — tips, updates, and offers. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops marketing emails immediately.
If you check the separate text-message box, we will also send recurring automated marketing texts to the number you provided. Text consent is not a condition of receiving your report or score. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help at any time.
A note on health-related information
Your readiness score and tier, when linked to your contact information, may be considered consumer health data under the laws of some states (including Washington and Nevada). We collect it only with your consent, use it only to deliver and personalize your report and our communications to you, and do not sell it or share it with third parties for their own use. To exercise privacy rights available in your state — including access or deletion — email us at the address below.
Who we share information with
We use service providers to operate this tool: our email platform (beehiiv), our text-message platform (SimpleTexting, only if you opt in to texts), and our hosting providers (Netlify, GitHub). They process your information on our behalf and not for their own marketing. We do not sell your personal information. If this site ever displays an offer to connect you with an outside service (for example, help with a claim), connecting is your choice, made by you clicking through — and we may receive compensation for that referral, which will be disclosed where the offer appears.
Your choices
- Email: unsubscribe via the link in any email.
- Texts: reply STOP at any time.
- Your quiz data on this device: use "Start Over," or clear your browser data.
- Access or deletion of your contact record: email us and we will honor your request within 45 days.
